There was a time when yahoo dominant the online world, but in today’s scenario people hardly remember what yahoo is.
Yahoo (Name) is about to finish literally after Verizon buys yahoo in July 2016, when 125 billion $ company sells only 4.8 billion $. It has become the one of the saddest deals in tech history. This is one of the hectic week for Yahoo lovers: First Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer leave board then Verizon decided to change name of “Yahoo” to “Altaba Inc”.
Yahoo co-founder David Filo and Mayer are among those resigning from the board along with Marissa Mayor. It is also said by Verizon executives that Mayer is expected to remain with Yahoo’s core business, which is being bought by the US telecom titan.
Mayer said in her press release,
“For me personally, I’m planning to stay, It’s important to me to see Yahoo into its next chapter.”
The directors who will remain with Altaba after the closing of the Verizon sale are To Braham, Eric Brandt, Catherine Friedman, Thomas McInerney and Jeffrey Smith. Brandt was named the chairman on Monday to help the company ease its transition to an investment vehicle.
That’s the story, how Yahoo, which is one of the biggest tech companies in the world, didn’t capable to save its own “NAME”. According to me biggest factor for their failure is “change”. They did not change or cope themselves according to the day-to-day updates in technology across the world like Google and Apple did. There was a time when ‘Email means Yahoo Mails’ and ‘Messenger means Yahoo Messenger’ but as the tech industry was reaching its peak Yahoo hadn’t upgrade itself and the result was – It unable to handle the expectations of public. And, that was the time when they started to go down & lack of futuristic vision bring them to floor.
For example when personal data from over a billion users was stolen in a hack dating back to 2013. They fail to upgrade there security which leads to twice as big as another breach disclosed just three months earlier, which benefits to Verizon and they further lower their offer to buy yahoo.
Its really interesting to see how Verizon change yahoo or we should call Altaba future and bring them once to one of the top tech company.
