The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) has officially declared the logo for the next generation 5G wireless network, which is the successor of the current 4G LTE and 4G LTE-Advanced technology. Though, the initial 5G Phase 1 specifications is expected to be release by 3GPP by late 2018 and then the Phase 2 will release by late 2020.
The 5G technology is the fifth generation of wireless networks which is expected to offer not only better uniform user experience in terms of data speed transfers but also has the capacity to connect the billions of devices like driver-less cars and household appliances which will connect to the internet in the near future.
The 3GPP 5G logo usage guide and policy is available for companies, manufacturers and service providers at 3GPP Logo Policy Guide.
India’s Move on 5G Technology
The Indian scientists and researchers are also working on this advanced platform of 5G network. The researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IITH) have already tested and displayed the first Cloud Radio Access Network (C-RAN) prototype for 5G technology. The C-RAN prototype for 5G with interference free communications is one of the first prototypes in the world. This prototype will be showcase in the Mobile World Congress that would be held at Barcelona in Spain in February 2017.
Dr. Kiran Kuchi from IIT Hyderabad, who is leading the project, has stated that this advance technology “5G C-RAN” will offer convergence of cellular, IoT, machine-to-machine transfer of information, WiFi everything on a single platform “Radio cloud”. In simple words, we can understand that this technology will allow downloading a cinema from the web within 8 to 10 seconds.
Working of 5G C-RAN
Dr. Kuchi has further stated that the 5G C-RAN will have a central server (cloud) which is easy to handle connected to Remote Radio Head ends (RRHs) which can be fitted at a low cost in any place. The RRHs will take the signals to the server from where it will be transmitted. This technology will ease the process of establishing communication networks in remote areas as it will cost let. It will also allow speedy access to day with little interruption accessing data very fast without much interruption. It will offer convergence of cellular, IoT, machine-to-machine transfer of information, WiFi everything on a single platform, the radio cloud.
According to Economic Times, 5G is capable of delivering speeds of over one 1 gigabit per second and support several devices at once.
