The Prasar Bharati Chairperson Dr. A Surya Prakash has launched a multimedia website and a mobile app for All India Radio (AIR)’s Balochi service on September 16, 2016 to reach out to people who speak the language across the globe.

The mobile app of Balochi service will be available at: Android and iPhone.

The purpose of the new Balochi service is to make the contents and programmes of Balochi language available at multimedia platforms for easy access of listeners and create a global audience.

The digital outreach is the new initiative of Balochi language services, though terrestrial service of Balochi services is 41 year old.

The multimedia website will not only improve reception quality of Balochi language services of External Services Division (ESD) of AIR , but also expand the reach of the service to Balochi Diaspora spread in different countries.

At present, the ESD broadcasts in 15 languages (including Balochi) & 12 Indian languages in over 150 countries.

The foreign languages are Arabic, Balochi , Burmese, Chinese, Dari, French, Indonesian, Persian, Pushtu, Russian, Sinhala, Swahili, Thai, Tibetan and English (General Overseas Service).

The Indian languages are Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Nepali, Punjabi, Saraiki, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.

It is the national public radio broadcaster of India and a division of Prasar Bharati. It is officially known as Akashvani and its headquarters is at the Akashvani Bhavan in New Delhi.

Purpose: To entertain, educate and inform the masses, as per its motto “Bahujan Hitaya: Bahujan Sukhaya” i.e. by raising the welfare and happiness of the people.

The ESD  of AIR is a link between India and rest of the world, especially in countries with Indian emigrants and people of Indian origin. It broadcasts the Indian point of view on matters of national and international importance, and demonstrates the Indian way of life through its programs. This service was started in 1974.

It is the Public Service Broadcaster of India established under the Prasar Bharti Act and came into existence on 23rd November 1997.
