This is one of a kind moment in tech history when five top-notch tech companies Google, Microsoft, Facebook, IBM and Amazon come together to make revolutionary advancement in machine learning and artificial intelligence.
At an event held Sept. 28 these companies announce the new Partnership on AI portal. Simply it means these companies will discuss advancements and conduct research in AI and how to develop best products and services powered by machine learning.
The tag line of “To benefit people And society” , partnership of these companies Established to study and formulate best practices on AI technologies, to advance the public’s understanding of AI, and to serve as an open platform for discussion and engagement about AI and its influences on people and society.
Finance for these research initially came from the companies involved later as the project developed as other stakeholders join the group which means finance will expected to increase.User activists, nonprofits, ethicists and other stakeholders will be joining the discussion in the coming weeks. As Mustafa Suleyman, co-founder and head of applied AI at DeepMind, a subsidiary of Alphabet (parent company of Google) said
“We want to involve people impacted by AI as well”
The structure of the this organisation is so that it will allow other non corporate groups to have equal opportunity, power and leadership side-by-side with large tech companies. Francesca Rossi, AI ethics researcher at IBM Research, told Tech Crunch.
“The power of AI is in the enterprise sector. For society at-large to get the benefits of AI, we first have to trust it”
Each founding company will have a representative on the board. The current representatives are Ralf Herbrich from Amazon, Mustafa Suleyman from DeepMind/Google, Yann LeCun from Facebook, Francesca Rossi from IBM, and Eric Horvitz from Microsoft.
