Are messages from unknown followers creating problems for you on Twitter? Then, Twitter alert is for you!
To avoid any inconvenience for its users, Twitter now filters Direct Messages (DMs) from unknown followers.
How Direct Messages will filter?
If you’ve opted-in to get Direct Messages from anyone, messages from people you don’t follow will appear as Requests in the Messages tab.
This new feature will work for anyone who turned on setting that allows incoming of messages from people they don’t follow and will let them choose to either Delete or Accept the messages.

If you accept the message, it will allow you to engage with the person and will move the message to your inbox. All media will be hidden prior to accepting the message. If you wish to view the hidden media, click or tap View media.
Note: Unknown followers will not know you have seen their message until you accept their request.

If you delete the message, it will remove from your inbox. Though, deleting a message will not prevent that account from sending you messages in the future. You will always have the option to block the account or report the conversation. Blocked accounts cannot send you messages, unless you unblock them.
Note: The option to Accept or Delete messages and View Media from someone new that you don’t follow is only available on the Twitter for iOS and Android apps and twitter.com.

Direct Message Card
On May 23, 2017, Twitter has also rolled out new customizable Direct Message Card for businesses, marketing & advertising to promote and share bots and other customer experiences built in Direct Messages.
Purpose: To help people connect with businesses in Direct Messages
Using a Direct Message Card, businesses can capture people’s attention with engaging image or video creatives and include up to four fully customizable call-to-action buttons.
