Android O: The beta version of the Android mobile operating system has been launched at 2017 Google I/O conference in Mountain View, San Francisco on 17th May 2017.
Purpose: To make phone startup quicker and apps faster.
The new OS is designed to work on devices with less than 1GB of RAM or less, and the company is designing its apps like YouTube Go, Chrome, Allo and Gboard to use less memory, storage space and mobile data.

- Picture-in-Picture (PIP) display: It’s a special type of multi-window mode that provides multi-task facility to smartphone users – like answering a phone call while watching a video, or booking an Uber or checking a calender.
- Auto Fill: No need to type your information again & again on mobile while launching or setting up new apps. This Chrome feature will work just like it works on desktop. It saves time and auto-fill your information like your username, password, address, credit card number, etc. Steps to enable or disable auto-fill:
- Go to Settings Apps & Notifications Default apps Autofill app
- Better Copy / Paste Option: With Android O, you just have to long press or double-tap anywhere on the phrase to select telephone numbers, email addresses, URLs, etc. It all links into Google’s database and your contact list.
- Additionally, if you want to copy the selection, the system will suggest opening the dialer or phone book if you tap a phone number, Gmail if you tap email handle and Google Maps if you select a street address.
- New homescreen for Android TV: This feature will makes it easier for users to find, preview, and watch content provided by apps. Apps can publish one or more channels, and users can control the channels that appear on the home screen. You’ll be able to get started with creating channels using the new TV Provider support library APIs.
- TensorFlow Lite: To make Android faster, Google has come out with TensorFlow Lite, the Google’s open source machine learning library system.
- TensorFlow Lite is specifically designed to be fast and lightweight for embedded use cases. With this, the device can instantly take care of the job in real-time, rather than ping the cloud and wait for a response.
- New App Notifications: In Android O, you’ll see a notification dot appear next to an app icon that indicates you have an unread item in an app. You can long-press on an app to check the alert content inside the app.

Vitals in Android: Focused on optimizing battery life, startup time, graphic rendering time, and stability.
- Battery Booster: This feature will set new limits on background location and Wi-Fi scans, and changes in the way apps run in the background. It will gauge and control how much battery life your apps are using.
- New Android Vitals Dashboards in the Play Console: The Play Console Dashboards will help you to overview common issues in your apps like excessive crash rate, ANR rate, frozen frames, slow rendering, excessive wakeups, stuck wake locks, etc. and also provide guidance on the best way to address the issues.
