To help business entity, WhatsApp Inc. has started testing its new feature Verified Business Accounts. Currently, WhatsApp business verification is limited to a small number of businesses participating in a pilot program. Some businesses are already verified by WhatsApp. Whenever you see a green badge 
next to a contact’s name, that means WhatsApp has confirmed that the phone number of this contact belongs to a business account.
WhatsApp has been planning for Verified Business Accounts since a year ago. They have mentioned this when they updated their terms and privacy policy after facebook acquired WhatsApp in 2014. They stated in updated privacy policy:
We will explore ways for you and businesses to communicate with each other using WhatsApp, such as through order, transaction, and appointment information, delivery and shipping notifications, product and service updates, and marketing.
WhatsApp also stated that these verified accounts will be spam-free while chatting and you can block such accounts while managing your business communications. Because, it may be possible that some business companies (or people) can misuse this verified account feature. Thus, for precautionary measure it’s really a bold step. By this feature, businesses can always take care of content they want to share with their contact/customer.
Highlights of Verified Business Accounts
- Verified Business Accounts will provide green badge
next to their name. - Yellow messages will be shown inside a chat for business. Users cannot delete these messages.
- If business’s phone number is saved in users’ address book, they will see the name saved in their address book. If phone number is not saved in users’ address book, they will see the name chosen by business for themselves.
- If users would like to stop a business from contacting them, they will have an option to block them.

From business point-of-view, these Verified Business Accounts will change the way of communication among companies and customers. At present, WhatsApp has 1.3 billion monthly active users worldwide. And, currently, businesses do interact with their customers with SMS & email, but after this feature of WhatsApp, the way of communication will change. It might be possible that other messaging services will also provide Verified Business Accounts service, through different service name. At the end, it will be helpful to both businesses & customers.
